Thanks to networking and connections and a whole lot of passion I was able to visit Number 10 Downing Street in November 2013 and meet Lord Young, David Cameron’s Advisor on Entrepreneurship and present the idea of The Business Cafe.
It was an excellent meeting with a generous amount of listening. Sound bites for me where ‘Young lady, are you clever enough to bring something like this to market?’ and the best one was ‘how quickly do you feel you could have 150 of these ‘cafe’s’ around the UK.
You see Lord Young’s agenda is about bringing the skills of the young into business and the importance of excellent business education. In fact he has now completed his paper that he was researching when we met, called ‘Enterprise for all, the relevance of Enterprise Education“. You can download and read it HERE
This meeting helped me get to a further set of people, The Association of Business Schools, and a further 90 other meetings in my quest to test the idea and learn how to adapt and build a business model that was sustainable, local, and brought together the key stakeholders at a local level. My goal to be support the small business, the micro business, the start-up and the freelance worker.
